The Application of Typology in the Interpretation of Middle Age’s Christian Art
Hadi Rabi’i
1
Typology in Christian theology and Biblical exegesis
is a doctrine or theory concerning the predictive
relationship of the Old Testament to the
New Testament. Events, persons or statements
in the Old Testament are seen as types pre-figuring
or superseded by antitypes, events or aspects
of Christ or his revelation described in the New
Testament. The elements of typological relations
consist of types in Old Testament and antitypes
in New Testament. In this system the unity of
Old and New Testaments of utmost importance
and the latter is seen and as the realization of the
former. This method may also be used in Biblical
exegesis especially in Book of Revelation as well
as other religious Christian texts. Yet this method
is not restricted to Bible and has been influential
in interpretation and appreciation of works of art.
This method enjoys such an importance that without
fully understand it one cannot comprehend the
narrative cycle and arrangement in some medieval
church images and the reasons behind their juxtapositions
on the walls. This article would discuss
the way for applying such a method in interpretation
of Christian medieval art and describes the
principals of this interpretive method.

Walter Benjamin Views on Experience and Function of Artwork in “The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproduction”
Roohollah Ramazani Barkoosara
1
This article describes the role of technology in the
developments occurred in the experience of the
work of art in modern era. First, the philosophical
fundaments of Benjamin views on experience and
the historical backgrounds of his considerations
about art are explained. Following, the effects of
technology is assessed both on the essence and
perception of art. It is discussed that technology,
while changing the sentimental apparatus of human
being, has effaced the distance and uniqueness
of artwork for its audience a situation which
is in turn a direct consequence of the presence of
technological reproduction in the sphere of art. The
result of such a historical shift is the decline of the
artwork’s aura and the replacement of ritual func5
tions by exhibition value. The arts like photography
and cinema, which depend on technology, are
essentially reproducible and their function is fully
exhibitive. Hence, the exhibitive appeal to art for
the masses makes it political. Such an appeal can
be either of use to totalitarian forces in society, like
Fascists, or becomes a means for enlightening the
masses and making them compatible with conditions
of modern technological life.

Aesthetic Transition from Beautiful to the Abyss of Aesthetic Concepts: Introducing and Analyzing Aesthetic Concepts of Frank Sibley
Muhammad Sadegh Kashefi
sadegh.kashefi@gmail.com
1
Frank Sibley is one of the most influential aesthetician and philosophers of art in twentieth century’s tradition of analytic philosophy. He’s the one who propagate the issue of aesthetic concepts through his brilliant essays and establishes these concepts as the core themes of aesthetics. This article would introduce and analyze Frank Sibley’s aesthetic concepts. To do this I first argue for his concepts by giving examples and explaining Sibley’s tacit claims. Finally, when these concepts are fully clarified and the borders of their usage are determined, the method for applying them will be explored.

Lessons of Artist Philosopher: Lyotard on Duchamp, Buren, Newman, and Francis
Hamed Azizian Gilan
1
This article would discuss some of Jean Francois
Lyotard’s views on art and his favorite artists as
well. Becoming world-wide known for his controversial
theories about postmodernity and the collapse
of grand-narratives, Lyotard used keywords
like sublime, undepictable, differend, and silent
voices to better present his critical opinions in the
realm of art.

Regarding the importance of universities and graduate-
level institutes in research, education and expert
realms, the key role of providing a structured
model for education has been always a focal concern.
This issue is even of a higher relevance in
planning for art disciplines where improving students’
initiative and competence require a careful
supervision.
In this article five main characteristics of
graduate education would be discussed, namely
student, professor, education-research system,
possibilities, and conditions. These characteristics
would be further evaluated. The results will be
used to enhance a curriculum in which the instructive
goals of education, research, and expertise
are seen.
Since the principal strategy and policy of education
in Iran involves being up-to-date, Islamic,
dynamic, and indigenous, it is claimed that there’s
a distinction between being Islamic or indigenous,
as a principle, and those criteria that affect the
outputs of the educating system. Hence, analyzing
the historical relationship between science, art
and religion can provide some insights about the
similarities and discrepancies of above mentioned
principle and criteria.
While introducing three main levels of education
of architecture in university, i.e. BS, MS and
PhD, this article would assess different educational
systems regarding their aims, structures and

programming in accordance with Islamic worldview
will be discussed.

Relfection on the Fundamental Thoughts behind the Construction of Four-Porch Mosques the Architecture of Saljuqi Dynasty
Elham Rezaei
1
In early Islamic centuries, contrary to the fact that
many remained temples from Iranian ancient religions
were turned into mosques, most of the
mosques were built following the model established
by Holy Prophet of Islam in building his
first mosque, i.e. a mosque with pillared prayer hall
(Khorasaani style). In the 5th century (Saljuqi era)
the formal architecture of this sort of mosques began
to change into a four-porch mosque, the form
of which soon was adopted in making mosques
across the land. This article tries to discuss the reasons
why that happened and to discuss further that
the prevalent ideas and traditions of the time this
four-porch mosque first appeared along with the
sacred importance of the Cross in Iranian culture
may shed light on the reasons this shift came about
during that time.
